Sexual Assault Awareness Month: Tough Guise 2
As the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements continue to reverberate, it’s never been more important for educators to encourage their students to think critically about the larger cultural forces that contribute to sexual harassment, sexual assault, and other forms of gender violence. With that in mind, MEF is offering a curated package of educational films at a specially discounted rate throughout April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
This week, we’re pleased to showcase Tough Guise 2, with pioneering anti-violence educator and cultural critic Jackson Katz, who has emerged as one of the leading voices on gender violence over the past few months. In the film, Katz argues that the ongoing epidemic of men’s harassment, abuse, and violence can’t be understood without looking at cultural norms of manhood. The film pays special attention to media images that equate manhood with violence and sexual conquest, and challenges the myth that being a real man means putting up a false front and engaging in violent and self-destructive behavior.
We hope you’ll take a minute to check out the other films in this special curated package as well. We’ve selected these four titles because we feel they offer important insights into how cultural norms shape our attitudes about sex, power, and violence, while encouraging students to think critically about mass media’s role in reinforcing and reproducing these norms.
Don’t miss this special discounted rate throughout Sexual Assault Awareness Month.*
