Featured Clip of the Month — Capitalism Hits the Fan

Richard Wolff on the Economic Meltdown

With breathtaking clarity, renowned University of Massachusetts Economics Professor Richard Wolff breaks down the root causes of today's economic crisis, showing how it was decades in the making and in fact reflects seismic failures within the structures of American-style capitalism itself. In May's clip of the month, Dr. Wolff explores the reasons wages stopped rising in the 1970s and have been stagnant ever since. Click here for more info on Capitalism Hits the Fan.

New Release — The Hollywood Librarian

They have more cardholders than VISA, more customers than Amazon, and more outlets than McDonald's. Meet America's librarians.

The Hollywood Librarian -- the first comprehensive treatment of the subject of librarians -- reveals the history and realities of librarianship in the entertaining and appealing context of American movies. Interviews with actual librarians, intercut with film clips of cinematic librarians, examine such issues as literature, books and reading, censorship, library funding, citizenship and democracy. Making the List

Nominate MEF Films for the Notable Videos for Adults List

Making the List
Librarians -- have you recently seen one of MEF's new films (Beauty Mark, Blood and Oil, Capitalism Hits the Fan, The Price of Pleasure, Consuming Kids, Generation M, The Hollywood Librarian, or Tim Wise: On White Privilege)? Do you want to let others know about it? Here's your chance! Consider nominating an MEF film for the Notable Videos for Adults 2010 list, which will help spread the word far and wide about our work. The list is compiled by the American Library Association Video Round Table committee and helps to provide guidance to public and academic librarians involved in building dynamic and balanced video collections. The nomination process is easy and straight-forward. Thanks!
